University of Mary Graduate Competencies:
Scholarship

When completing my paper on the internal data needs for Pavlik harness treatment in developmental dysplasia of the hip, I witnessed firsthand how this research aligned with the University of Mary's Graduate Competencies in Scholarship. By investigating the specific data requirements for the treatment, I could enhance patient outcomes and demonstrate the applied knowledge expected from graduates.

I employed evidence-based practice principles to critically appraise the existing literature around the Pavlik harness, which strengthened my ability to assess and integrate research findings in nursing practice. Additionally, I utilized database mining techniques to gather relevant data, enabling comparative analysis and identifying best practices essential for continuous quality improvement.

Throughout my analysis, I also evaluated how information systems and technology could influence clinical and administrative decision-making. This assessment highlighted the essential role of technology in supporting evidence-based practice and improving nurse-sensitive outcomes. Overall, this experience reinforced my professional philosophy grounded in scholarship and emphasized the importance of research and evidence-based practice in my nursing career.
