University of Mary Graduate Competencies:
Professional Distinction
During my time developing a presentation on the clinical reasoning involved in diagnosing and treating diverticulitis, I found that it aligned closely with the University of Mary Graduate Competency of Professional Distinction. I utilized critical thinking skills and decision support systems to formulate clinical decisions that aimed to provide holistic, high-quality care for my patients. As I explored interdisciplinary collaboration, I recognized the value of incorporating diverse perspectives and evidence-based practices into my care plans. This understanding allowed me to focus on population-specific factors and complementary therapies, contributing to improved patient outcomes in a meaningful way.
I also emphasized the role of the advanced practice nurse in the management plan development, demonstrating how clinical decision-making led to the appropriate use of diagnostic tests and follow-up care for patients with varying complexities. Reflecting on how previous experiences informed my approach, I learned to personalize treatment based on individual patient histories. Ultimately, this experience reinforced my commitment to prioritizing the common good and fostering the growth of others within my practice.
