Essential VII: Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving the Nation’s Health
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Doctorate Essentials, specifically Essential VII, focuses on clinical prevention and population health, which is crucial for improving the nation’s health. This essential emphasizes the importance of preparing DNP graduates to analyze various scientific data, synthesize concepts of cultural diversity and psychosocial dimensions, and evaluate care delivery models that address health needs at individual and community levels.
In my health promotion poster assignment on depression, I applied these skills directly. I analyzed epidemiological data, which helped me understand how depression affects various demographics. My poster highlighted culturally sensitive strategies, reflecting my understanding of the psychosocial dimensions involved in health promotion. Additionally, I evaluated existing care delivery models for depression and proposed improvements based on environmental and socioeconomic factors. By incorporating anticipatory guidance and motivational interviewing techniques, I illustrated ways to encourage individuals to seek help and adopt healthier coping strategies. This assignment not only allowed me to apply my learning but also reinforced my ability to engage in effective health promotion, leading to better individual and community health outcomes.
